Lazy day on Monday. Took some pictures over to Ralphs and dropped in at no 81 to water the plants. Set up my cycle helmet camera. Some more new old chairs arrived for the kitchen. Got the train to Shrewsbury on Tuesday afternoon. Checked in to the Old Post House, had a couple of pints in a great pub called Loggerheads then dinner in a tiny Italian called La Lanterna. It all got a bit weird when we got back to the hotel. Some workmen started some very noisy machinery just outside. They were fixing an electrical fault apparently. Then someone came to check the fire alarm in our room. As a result M hardly got any sleep, if any. M went to the Shropshire Archives on Wednesday which was the reason for the trip. I set off to explore, mainly along the river Severn. It's a very nice town with lots of old bits and alleyways. Some really interesting terraced streets including one call Darwin St as he was born here. There's a Darwin House down there as well.
There's a massive public school (Shrewsbury School) and some very big houses as well as the terraces.
There's a great market too. I met M there for a spot of lunch. After that we did a bit of shopping and she went back to hotel for a nap whilst I continued exploring. There were some bits of towpath that were gated off but I saw a local climbing over and so did the same. There had been some flooding.
The river clearly isn't tidal this far upstream.

In fact its only tidal from Gloucester.
Met up with Anne and Wynn in the evening at the Loggerheads
then had a great meal in the Golden Cross. Meanwhile James was at a basketball game in New York with Spencer.

Had a final look round Shrewsbury on Thursday morning then headed for the station. Unfortunately all the trains to Birmingham were cancelled due to the emergency services working on something near the track. So we had to go via Crewe. It meant we were a couple of hours late getting back but apart from that it wasn't too bad and we get a full refund. Went to see John Otway at the Face Bar in the evening. Great fun. Last time I saw him was in the old Purple Turtle one Friday lunch and he was with Wild Willy Barrett. This time he has a full band. Supported by Damien A Passmore and the Loveable Fraudsters. Nigel Blair was there. Haven't seen him for ages. Went up to London on Friday as M wanted to visit the Westminster Cathedral Archives. These turhed out to be in Kensington. While she was there I went for a bit of a wander. It's very much how the other half lives territory, lots of big houses, quite a few still single residences. There were a couple squares Pembroke and St Edwards that were locked so I assume for residents only. Pembroke had a tennis court. Then walked round Holland Park that I dont think I've been to before. Some is quite wild and there's a semi derelict hall in the middle some of which is a hostel. After that we went into the city to visit the London Mithraeum which is a roman temple underneath the Bloomberg building in the city near Canon Street station. Then we walked to Liverpool Street and had a late lunch in an Italian before getting the Elizabeth Line back. Got up early on Saturday morning to pick JAMO up from Heathrow. They came back to ours for breakfast then I took them home. Very windy because of storm Darragh. Had a bit of a lazy day on Saturday. Still windy. Brendan, Lynda and Kelvin came round on Sunday evening for the annual Christmas meal.
