Coronavirus - Sunday February 26th 2023

Fairly quiet day on Monday. Popped into town and tidied up the wisteria at the end of the garden. Took the car in for its MOT and service on Tuesday. Did a ride out to  Blue Tin Farm on Wednesday. Good ride but a bit chilly so no pub stop. M went to the BRO. Went to the Grumpy Goat in the evening with Kevin, Adrienne and Penno. It closed at 10 so went on to the Ale House. Did a Terry Dixon guided walk of Coley on Thursday morning. M went up to London in the evening for a spads reunion. I went to see a cycling film called A Sunday In Hell at South St with Kelvin, Andy and Stuart. It was about the Paris - Roubaix race in 1976. Really good. Had a couple of pints in the Turks afterwards. M went to the BRO on Friday morning and we went swimming in the afternoon. Went to watch URZ beat Blackpool 3 1 on Saturday with Ralph and Andy. The score flattered us a bit and it was not much of a game but 3 points is 3 points. Watched the first part of the Beatles Get Back documentary in the evening. George has left the band. Did a bit of pruning in the garden on Saturday. Moved the router down to the front room so we can have a wired connection to the TV. Madeline is definitely walking now.

Coronavirus - Sunday February 19th 2023

More work in the garden on Monday with a trip to the tip. Lots of red kite activity in the afternoon. Must have been about 10 at one point. Repaired a bit more broken fence on Tuesday. There's a very tame blue tit that's been feeding on the seeds on the Judas tree for the last few days. It seems to be the only bird that's recognised them as a food source.
Went to watch URZ beat Rotherham 2 1 in the evening with Ralph. They came from a goal down. It was pretty dire stuff. Not many there as it was Valentines night. Put the finishing touches to the garden work and my animation on Wednesday. Let the animation loose on Thursday. Went for a swim in the afternoon. I emailed.Tony to see how he's getting on after his heart problem and he's on the road to recovery so we've booked a band practice for 2nd March. On Friday I did a ride out to the rebranded West Berks brewery, its now called Renegade. It was full, possibly helped by half term. Fine plate of ham, egg and chips. In the evening I did the sound at RSAC for Secluded Bronte. Probably the weirdest band I've ever seen. Here's a selection of their instruments which includes an empty can of Tanglefoot. One guy makes noises, one plays keyboards and various other instruments and one plays electric guitar and stuff from a laptop. There's no singing as such but they all speak. Sometimes completely different things all at the same time. I really enjoyed the experience as did the 7 people in the audience. URZ lost 1 0 away at Cardiff. They conceded in 91st minute. We were supposed to be going to a party at Ian and Fran's in Sheffield on Saturday but it was called off as Fran had a nasty bug. Had a very lazy day instead but did make pasta, a source, focaccia and a loaf. It was a lovely day on Sunday so we had a stroll into town with the intention of visiting the 3 parish churches. Unfortunately St Giles wasn't open. Popped into The Great Expectations which has now been refurbished and is Hotel 1843. No real ale but they had Neck Oil and were playing Radiohead the whole time so not bad. Very spring like.

Coronavirus and garden pottering - Sunday February 12th 2023

On Tuesday I put a new fence post in with help from Kelvin (it broke in storm about a year ago). If was a really nice day, cold but sunny and great to spend it outdoors. Finished of the fence on Wednesday apart from sawing off the top of the post. Sawed off the top of the post on Thursday and the next one to make them the same. Fixed up the trellis and put it back up and repaired the raised beds.
M spent the day at the BRO. Did some more garden tidying on Friday. M went to the library. Had a call with JAM late afternoon. Madeline can now take a few steps between JnA and seems to really enjoy it. More garden tidying on Saturday. A good start to the day on Sunday, had a nice lie in. Then more work in the garden.

Coronavirus - Monday February 6th 2023

Its time to get active again after a relaxing week due to knee trouble and cold weather so did my 5 hills ride on Monday morning. I was fine on the ride but my knee was a bit saw afterwards. In the evening the boiler stopped working. Called a CH man out on Tuesday and the problem seemed to be related to a blocked cold feed into the system from the header tank. Heard that Graham Bates had covid. Went to the Butler in the afternoon to check out the function room. Sally had her other scan.

Lazy day on Wednesday. Went for a ride out to The Four Points with Kelvin and Stuart on Thursday and had first Thursday drinks in the Greyfriars in the evening. Maybe had 1 too many so had a bit of a lie in on Friday. I've had a tickly cough for a few days and also a bit of a loss of taste so thought I'd better do a covid test. I was negative. Went for a swim in the afternoon. My knee seemed fine after both the ride snd the swim. I helped with the sound at RASC in the evening. It was a gig for independent venues week. I got a T-shirt this time. They had them last year but they'd missed RSAC off so I didn't bother. First band were As Loud As A Mouse. I'd seen them before at Double Dot Bash. They're billed as a 2 piece. Guitarist and singing drummer. Each time I've seen them they've had a separate drummer though. The first time it was because the drummer/singer had been in a car crash but now he has MS. I like them. Next were This, bass, drums, keys and guitarist/singer. A full echoy sound. Finally Cities in Dust, bass, drums, guitarist and singer with some laptop stuff going on. Good sound and good songs. Heard whilst I was there that Tony was in the Royal Berks having had a mild heart attack. Drove over to Tom and Sally's on Saturday. Watched England lose to Scotland at the rugby, went down the Green Goddess for a couple of pints and then back for an excellent meal. On Sunday did a walk along the river in the winter sunshine and took photos to prove it.
Lost of people were on skateboards and bikes along one stretch. This guy belonged to the Fixed Pirates
This and the 2 below were from outside the Cutty Shark pub.

Stopped off for a few pints on the way at the Pilot, Brewing By Numbers brewery and the Cutty Sark. I just love it down there. Went for pinzas after and then on to Up The Greek for Sunday night comedy. The headliner was Ed Gamble and John Robins was the compere.  He was the pick for me. There was also Cylea AB, a young aussie guy who was a bit manic and another woman but I can't remember there names or find them anywhere. Drove back on Monday morning. We went through London on the way there and back which is slow but much more interesting than bombing round the M25.  We didn't use the train as there had been strikes and the  Elizabeth line wasn't open. Great weekend.
