Coronavirus - Sunday January 29th 2023

It was a really frosty morning on Monday so did my Kennet walk and took some atmospheric photos.
The ghostly Coley Flats
The walk gave me an idea for a new animation so started that on Tuesday. It also aggravated my dodgy knee so took it easy. Similar day on Wednesday. M took part in the online quiz league in the evening. Sally had her second scan. All good but the baby was in the wrong position so theyneed to go back next week. They have the gender in an envelope as they're not sure whether they want to know. Had a band practice on Thursday that went really well especially considering we haven't played together for 6 weeks and there have been other distractions. More work on the animation on Friday and started trying to put together and Cracking Up demo. M went to the hygenist in Oxford. Lazy day on Saturday but Andy, Ralph and Sue came round in the evening to watch URZ v Man U in the 4th round of the cup. We lost 3 1. It was the annual lawn spiking on Sunday. Watched some more cup football. Brighton deservedly beat Liverpool 2 1 and Wrexham v Sheff Utd was a 3 3 thriller. Wrexham were 1 0 down after 2 mins and had lost 2 centre backs to injury after 10. They really went for it in the second half though and must have thought they'd won it 3 2 when they scored in the 88th minute. The Blades equalised in the 95th though. Cooked a fine slow roasted shoulder of lamb.

Coronavirus and Rick's 70th - Sunday January 22nd 2023

Did a bit more rodent proofing on Monday by covering a rusted up underfloor air brick. Started making marmalade. Madeline had croup in the night so they took her to AnE where they treated her with a dose of steroid. She responded well and was much better on Tuesday morning and devoured some weetabix.
Finished off making the marmalade but it hasn't set. Checked the rodent trap under the kitched cupboard and it hadn't been tampered with so assumed they were just passing through and blocked up the hole. Did the Brewdog quiz in the evening with Michael and won both the quiz and the jackpot although the latter was only £93 as compared to £900 last time. The jackpot is all cash too. What are you meant to do with that these days? You can't even spend it there. Just keep it for haircuts I guess. One of the jackpot questions was how many US states begin with the letter M and I had learnt that the previous day in order to memorise all the states. It's 8. Woke up with a dodgy back on Wednesday so took things easy. M went up to London for an IHR (Institute of Historical Research) talk. We went swimming on Thursday. My back, knee and hamstring all survived the experience. Got some pectin in the shop so re-boiled the marmalade and this time it has set. Went for another swim in the afternoon. Drove up to Howden on Saturday for Rick's 70th. Stayed at the Wellington. The do was in the Shire Hall and Nick's band The Locals were playing but unfortunaley the drummer couldn't make as he had a cracked rib so Rick stepped in. A couple of his grandkids, Mable and Eve also sang songs.
Meanwhile Madeline wanted to go out.
Drove back on Sunday.

Coronavirus - Sunday January 15th 2023

On Tuesday I put away the child proofing and did a bit of a tidy. Painted the bedroom wall on Wednesday to make good after the window was fitted. M took part in an online quiz with Michael Hutchinson and a few others. She was just observing this time. Its called the Online Quiz League
We seem to have a rodent problem so filled up a hole in the front room and put a trap down under the floor of the kitchen cupboard on Thursday. Had first Thursday drinks in the Alehouse in the evening. Madeline revealed some more dance moves on Friday. I did my 5 hills ride but was thwarted by flooding a couple of times.
M had a call in the evening with the Reading Uni UC team. A good start to the day on Saturday, didn't get up until after midday.Went watch URZ v the false hoops with Ralph and Andy. We were 2 0 up at half time then sat back so it ended 2 2. It got quite cold so Ralph had to leave early. Both Martha and Toby and their families had covid over Christmas but they are all fine. Walked to the Waitrose in Caversham on Sunday to buy seville oranges to make marmalade. The Thames footpath was flooded in parts. Very enjoyable. Listened to music all the way. About 6 miles in all. Had roast beef later.

On Monday we went for a walk round Binfield Heath and had lunch in the barn at the Bottle and Glass. On Tuesday James and Amy went to see Hannah and Al and their new baby Netta in their boat in Ware. We looked after Madeline and she learned to sit on the step.Went to Zero Degrees in the evening. Madeline showed us some new dance moves. I took Madeline to the Robert Hewitt park on Wednesday and she enjoyed pushjng her own stroller. On Thursday we took Madeline to Prospect Park. I went to the hygenist on Friday and M took Madeline to the library.
On Saturday we drove over to Phil and Ricky's in Hackney for the Kelly Christmas do. It was great fun. We stayed in a Travel  Lodge and drove back the next day. Josh and Vic came round with Isla and Amy cooked a fine roast chicken dinner. They drove back on Monday morning and I went on a ride with Andy, Kelvin and Graham. It was good to get out again. Ian now has covid.

New Year 2023

James and Amy went to a party in Romford on new years eve and stayed over so we looked after Madeline. Tom and Sally were also there. The looking after was fine but we had a bit of trouble getting her off to sleep. The up side of that though was that she slept right through. Popped out into the street at midnight and raised a glass with Kelvin. Lots of fireworks. We took Madeline to Coley Park in the morning and James and Amy got back about 1 pm.
Heard that Fran has covid.

Christmas 2022

As a result of my accident last Saturday I tried to rest my leg so didn't do much physical activity. Had a Goolie zoom on Monday evening. Ian, John and Rick are very much into saving energy whereas Greg along with ourselves doesn't want to be cold in our retirement. M went to Oxford on Tuesday to do some Xmas shopping in the covered market. Spent my time doing an Xmas number ones disco bingo followed by an EOTR one. On Thursday did an Xmas Only Connect. Mr Ali, the inventor of the Chicken Tikka Masala at the Shish Mahal in Glasgow, sadly passed away. Horrible day on Friday, lots of rain.  Managed to twist my knee whilst tidyjng up. Heard on Saturday morning that Anne has a very bad cold so her and Wynn wont be coming for Christmas as planned. Went down the Castle Tap in the evening with Steve, Lindsey, Tony, Sue and Patrick. Maybe had a pint too many. Mandy came over on Christmas Day. We drove out to Sonning for a leisurely walk and a pint at the Bull. Had a zoom with JAM and Tom and Sally then settled down to slow roasted lamb. I popped out for some air and to admire the local light shows.Kelvin came round later. Had quite a late one. Spent Boxing Day child proofing the house and catching up on Christmas telly. Picked JAM up from Heathrow on Tuesday morning. Their flight had been delayed by a couple of hours because of baggage handling issues in Toronto and as a result their suitcases didn't turn up. We put a fairly feeble fence round the Christmas Tree but it seems to have deterred Madeline. What could possibly go wrong? Tom and Sally came over in the evening. Stayed up til about 2 30 chatting to Tom. Wednesday was our Christmas day and we had planned fish but this was vetoed by Tom so we had to pop out for a large chicken. I'd been putting strapping round my hamstring and knee but noticed the bottom of my leg was startjng to swell up so time to stop the strapping. Did the presents a bit later. Had a fine meal and watched See How They Run. Played a few games with Tom after. On Thursday the younger generations went over to Josh and Vic's. We put Madeline to bed in practice for new years eve. Tom and Sally went back on Friday. We drove over to Thatcham in the afternoon to pick up one of James and Amy's suitcases from DHL then went for a walk at the nature reserve. We cooked the fish we had bought for our Christmas and played a few games.
