Grandkids - Sunday April 26th 2026

Spent most of Monday doing admin. In the evening we went to a talk in the long gallery in Englefield House. Very interesting just because ot the location. Went to the dentist for a check up on Tuesday morning. All OK. Did a short bike ride with Bobby in the afternoon, across the uni, down to the Lodden and back along the Thames. Went swimming on Wednesday morning. In the afternoon took a dodgy foldback monitor from RSAC to Bob Noyes. Left it there to see if he could fix it. Went to see Dry Cleaning in the evening at the Brixton Academy with Pete Larrett. It's a good venue. As it's an old theatre/cinema it has a sloping floor which means it's easy to see. Pretty good sound too but the singer could have done to be clearer/louder. Didn't think much to the support acts so they don't get a mention. Before the gig we met in a really good pub called the Duke of Edinburgh. When I initially looked at the map I saw the Trinity Arms and this reminded me of when I worked in London and we used to play 5-a-side with some guys from Lambeth Council who used to be customers of ours when I worked for ICL . We used to go to the Trinity afterwards. But Pete checked out both pubs and reckoned the Duke was better. I walked past the Ferndale sports centre on my way there which might be where we played. On Thursday morning I had an appointment at the Thatcham  Community Hospital to see the consultant about my eye. M drove in case they gave me drops. He perscribed more Acular drops for 2 months. This needed 2 bottles. i tried the chemist in Coley Park but they couldn't read the prescription. Went to Boots down Broad St. They didn't have any in stock nor did their branch in the Oracle. Neither did Superdrug but they suggested Saood down Oxford Rd. They had one bottle. They took the prescription but gave me a note and suggested I went to the hospital chemist for the second. They had it in stock but wouldn't accept the note, said I needed an outpatients prescription from the eye department. Tried the eye clinic they told me to go to eye casualty and eventually they gave me one. There was a very long queue when I got back to the chemist but the woman I had spoken to said I could just go straight to her but inevitably she wasn't there. What a palaver. Installed a new extractor fan in the downstairs loo. Spent most of Friday doing housework and stuff. No 81 came round for pizzas in the evening. We opened up the pizza oven for the first time this year. James and Amy dropped the kids off on Saturday morning so they could pack for Amy, Madeline and Owen's trip to Canada.
Owen was a bit out of sorts. He'd been off nursery for a few days with a temperature but was also on drops for an ear problem. Tom, Sally and Edith came round later. They are in town for Josh's 40th. Edith had been off nursery all week with chickenpox. After the no 81 gang had gone Edith fell asleep in the makeshift tent with M.
Me and M then went for a late afternoon swifty at the Rising Sun pub. We were hoping to sit in the garden but it was completely full. M then went to a concert at St Mary's
and I did the sound at RSAC for Variety Night with 2 new volunteers, Louis and Lakshmi. Amy and the kids landed safely in Canada. Amy took Owen to the docs and he now has a double ear infection and is on antibiotics. Emptied my wardrobe and a couple of drawers in preparation for JAMO moving in. Booked the last bits if the Canada trip,  hotel in Niagara and train back to Toronto. James came round for slow roasted pork belly.

HCTS Kick Off - Sunday April 19th 2026

A quiet day on Monday but in the evening I went to RSAC for an ops meeting only to find out from Larry that it was just online. He was doing it from a laptop in office so I joined him. An AFD. Blasted the table and storage box on the patio on Tuesday. M got some pots from Lorraine down the street including this chimney pot. Went to the garden centre near Playhatch.
Another AFD.
I did my 5 hills ride on Wednesday. Cleared weeds from the area by the side of the house  Booked the Ottawa and Montreal train journeys fir our Canada trip.
Yet another AFD.
Went swimming on Thursdsy morning. M wanted to take a picture of the source if the Holybrook where it leaves the Kennet known as Arrow Head.
We thought we might be able to access from the North side bear where the Solar Panels are naked on the map but there is no path along the river there. The nearest we could get was Farston lock even though you can't actually see it from there. A fourth AFD in a row.
James and Amy popped over and left the kids with us on Friday lunch time as they had house moving papers to sign in town. Had a band practice in the evening. Went to see URZ lose to Cardiff 3 1. Cardiff were promoted just like Lincoln at the last home game. Went straight to RSAC for Tribute Night. It's been going for 20 years so the theme was music released in 2006. I did the sound with Paul. Me, Tony and Andy played Monster by The Automatic. We were on last because Andy had been to Leeds to watch Wolves. James and Amy dropped the kids off on Sunday morning and we took them to the Bobby Hooloo park. I had organised a Here Comes The Sun kick off meeting at RSAC at 1pm. Initially it didn't look promising but eventually 8 volunteers and a dog turned up including me so we'll go ahead. Went over to no 81 later for dinner.

Quiet Week - Sunday April 12th 2026

M had started painting some of the outdoor chairs on Monday and finished off on Tuesday. I painted the downstairs window sills and started touching up some of the wood work. Went for a haircut. Finished off the windows on Wednesday. Did the Retreat quiz in the evening and came our usual 3rd. Went swimming on Thursday morning, just me though as M has conjunctivitis and didn't want to risk it. Went to get some food waste bags from the library, thought it had moved to the civic centre but it hasn't yet. Had a band practice in the evening followed by first Thursday drinks. I left my Doc Martens in Sedbergh and they arrived safely back home on Friday. That was the excitement for the day. Quiet days on Saturday and Sunday but JAMO came round for dinner on Sunday.

Easter - Monday April 6th 2026

On Monday I attempted to remove the cotoneaster (cotoni aster as opposed to coton easter) from around the bay. It went into early lead, first breaking a tine off the fork then bending it completely. After a struggle though I prevailed in the end.
The outdoor brush also broke when I was sweeping up. An AFD.
On Tuesday morning I took it down the tip then went to BnQ for a new fork and brush and a few bags of bark chippings. Put that down in the afternoon and the rake broke in the process. Some pots arrived that M had ordered and a replacement plant for the pot next to the tellis by the rear kitchen window. Another AFD. Did a ride out to Hambledon with Kelvin on Thursday. Had a coffee and very good toasties at the village stores. Showed him round the Rising Sun in the evening as he's thinking about hiring it for his 80th. Yet another AFD. We went swimming on Thursday morning. Meanwhile there was an Easter bonnet competition at Edith's nursery.Popped down to BnQ with M for a new garden rake and a few other things. Took the old Kasuga into Oxfam Music.
A fourth AFD in a row. Spent most of the day on Friday cooking and tidying in preparation fir Easter. Tom, Sally and Edith got here about 10 30. JAMO came over on Saturday. We did an easter egg hunt followed by lasagne. Got a new Edith calandar as a belated birthday present. Tom beat me again in a very narrow game of crib. Tom, Sally and Edirh moved on to Keith and Fiona's  on Sunday. We walked over to no 81 for dinner and got the bus back. Went to see URZ lose to top of the table Lincoln on Monday with Ralph. They conceded early but were always in with a shout and Wing equalised with a fantastic free kick in the 92nd minute only for us to mess it up and let in another in the 96th. It gave them promotion and we are down to 8th. Big crowd 17,144. The 106 legends were introduced to the crowd before rge natch including the likes if Steve Coppel and Kevin Doyle.
