Kelly Do - Sunday January 28th 2024

Took Owen for another walk into town in the sling on Monday. We cashed in a load of foreign money that we've had for a while from our various travels. Got £275. On Tuesday I went for a ride down the Kennet. Still some flooding and some storm damage. The towpath is being washed away. This was about a foot deep so I got wet feet. Also  flooded round the back of Elgar Rd.
Went to see URZ beat Derby 1 0 in the evening. A deserved win. They were really up for it and Derby were 3rd. We didn't sit in our usual seats as Ralph's leg waa playing up a bit so we sat lower down. That also meant I got away really quickly. Took owen into town on Wednesday morning then did a ride out Henley way and back via Caversham. Still a bit of flooding on the Thames path near the David Lloyd centre. Took Owen in to town again on Thursday. Setup the child seat holder on M's bike so Amy can use it but it turned out to be complicated as there is a brake cable holder built into the seat post where the holder goes. In the end had to take the bike into Evans as I couldn't get the brakes to work. Needed a new cable. They are really helpful in there these days and only charged me a fiver for the labour. Amy therefore managed to pick Madeline up from nursery on the bike. M went to the Biscuit Factory to see Poor Things with Mandy and Fiona, then to Bills for a meal. Did a variation of the ride out to Theale and back via Hardwick Stud on Friday. Thought I'd avoid the flooding on the Kennet by joining at Southcote Lock but I was wrong so still ended up with wet feet.
Went up to London on Saturday for the annual Xmas Kelly do at Phil and Ricky's. Great food, company and fun.Stayed at the Travelodge. Got home about midday on Sunday. JAMO were out at Isla's 2nd birthday party. Amy had her friend Avril round in the afternoon.

Dog Sitting - Sunday January 21st 2024

Still cold on Monday but nice and sunny. Amy took the kids to rhyme time at Tilehurst library in the morning. We took them to the park in the afternoon then Josh came over with Isla. Took Owen for a walk into town on Tuesday morning. Did a walk down to nob end and along the railway line in the afternoon.  Nice sunset.Popped into the Foresters on the way back for a very swift one. Limited choice of beers but a very nice pint of landlord. Friendly welcome. Took Owen for a walk on Wednesday morning. I went for a street walk late afternoon and popped into the Rose Thistle for a very swift one. Pretty similar to the Foresters on the beer front and another nice pint of landlord. Not as friendly but not unfriendly. Tried Owen in the sling for a walk into town on Thursday morning. Worked well. He eventually fell asleep on Castle Hill on the way back so transferred him to the stroller. Late Friday afternoon we went down The Retreat to meet up with Andy as he goes down there most weeks. Howie was also there. He had one crutch but gets around at home without any. He's looking well and was on good form. On Saturday Tony came round to practice a few songs. We're planning to do Sanctuary at the next tribute night which is Iron Maiden. We baby sat in the evening as James and Amy went to see comedy at South Street. URZ lost 1 0 away to Wigan so we are now 4 points from safety. SET came over for a late lunch on Sunday. They've been dog sitting for Keith and Fiona's dog Wilma as they've been skiing to Finland with Ewan and Charlotte. Had another call later with Anne and Wynn to disuss wedding plans.

Cold Snap - Sunday January 14th 2024

I took Owen out for a walk on Monday afternoon. It was very cold and we had very light snow. Then we had hail after we got back.
There was more snow but it didn't settle. Had my first alcohol free day since at least 18th October when we went up to Glasgow. Owen had his second set of jabs on Tuesday. I had a second AFD. Went over to SET's on Wednesday. Did a really nice walk through Greenwich Park in the sunset. Had a couple in the Hare and Billet and a great meal in The Ivy in Blackheath.
We met up with Julie Hardy and her brother Neil at The Narrowboat (formerly Bel and Dragon) on Thursday evening. It was good to catch up. JAMO went swimming on Friday. We did a bit of gardening. Edith has moved into her own room. On Saturday I popped into Roger and Jean's party before going to watch URZ vs Port Vale. Unfortunately the match was abandoned due to a pitch invasion. Tennis balls were thrown on at the start and the pitch invasion was on the 16th minute.
I took over an hour for them to make the decision. There were probably only about 40 to 50 people left on the pitch at the end. Meanwhile JAMO went to a birthday party for one of the kids in Madeline's nursery. Had a call with Anne and Wynn in the evening to discuss their second attempt at getting married. All sounds good. Took Madeline to softplay on Sunday. James made pizzas.

Flooding - Sunday January 7th 2024

Did the 5 hills ride on Wednesday but went via The Spring Inn instead of going straight up to Ufton Nervet as I knew it would be flooded that way as it was in Green Park.
In the evening I popped out to The Fishermans Cottage to check out the weekly open mic night. Quite a varied selection of stuff including an opera singer. We started James' Xmas lego jigsaw on Wednesday and finished it on Thursday.
On Friday JAMO went swimming and I went out on my bike on flood watch. The Kennet proved a bit tricky. As did the Thames.I cycled along the road to Sonning.
But got my feet wet on the way to Playhatch There was even flooding on the higher ground between Dunsden and Caversham.
Not too bad back in Reading.
Did more flood watch on Saturday. A lot worse inspite of the fact there has been no more rain.l
Got this from Ian.JAMO went over to Josh and Vic's for the night. I took Owen on flood watch on Sunday. It's on the way down.
Did a roast chicken dinner and M made an excellent custard pie.
