Coronavirus - Sunday 27th February 2022

Did a bit of wallpapering in the guest room on Monday to temporaily hide the damp patches as we are having guests. Boris announced the end of covid restrictions from Thursday. Still loads of cases but very few deaths as the omnicron variant is mild and lots of us are vaccinated. My first coronavirus post was for the week up to 22nd March 2020. Madeline has started laughing.

On Tuesday took the car in for an MOT and service and noticed this mural on the corner of Portman Rd and Cow Lane. Not sure if its graffiti or official. Did some googling and couldn't find anything but did find reference to a cow mural in Great Knolly Street. Its close to where the cattle market and abattoir used to be. Reading beat Birmingham 2 1 in the evening. The first win I've seen since 25th September against Middlesboro. Ralph came along for his first game in ages, ge was at the Middlesbrough game too. Went out for a ride on Wednesday, not done that for a while. Impessive deer in the Englefield estate.
Russia invaded Ukraine on Thursday. Very scary. They are not in NATO so we're all just imposing sanctions. Did another short ride. It was a bit nippy. Had a goolie zoom in the evening. Ian and Fran came over on Friday. Had a good meal, chat and games. Did a walk on Saturday and ended up at the Phantom Brewery. On the way spotted some different graffiti under Reading bridge.
Ian and Fran went back late Sunday morning. Had a lazy day.

Coronavirus - Sunday 20th February 2022

A lazy day on Wednesday. Practised some songs and went into town to deposit last nights quiz winnings. Watched Reading on Sky in the evening, they drew 0 0 with Peterborough who are 2 points behind us with a game in hand. More practise on Thursday, also went for a swim and had a Goolie zoom in the evening. Storm Eunice hit on Friday causing some damage to the fence.

The greenhouse door also blew off and several glass panels blew out but no glass was broken. Good band practise in the afternoon. Reading actually won a football game on Saturday beating PNE 3 2 away. They then sacked the manager and employed Paul Ince as interim manager. He hasn't managed for 8 years and his son Tom was recently signed on loan. You couldn't make it up. Got a video of Madeline demonstrating her bath time skills.

A good start to the day Sunday, finished the everyman crossword and M did wordle before getting up. Wordle is s new word game that has gone viral where you have work out a five letter word.

Lazy day after that

Coronavirus - Tuesday 15th February 2022

Mainly admin, cooking and music on Monday. Did a ride with Andy, Kelvin and Stuart on Tuesday. Got a train to Newbury and did a loop out to Wantage. Had lunch at Letcombe Regis, excellent fish and chips. Lots if snow drops at Welford Park.About 40 miles. Chain Hill out of Wantage is a bugger. Had a band practice on Wednesday. Not as planned but some promising new songs. Did a test before hand and as we're going up to Glasgow. Got the train up to Glasgow on Thursday via Euston for a change. Masks are still compulsory on public transport in Scotland. Checked into our apartment, picked up some supplies, then pizzas and headed over to J n As. Madeline has certainly changed in the 6 weeks or so since we last saw her. She holds her head up, can nearly sit up unsupported and makes lots of different noises.

We left around 8 30 and stopped off at The Coopers pub just around the corner but it was very busy with mainly young folk. On Friday picked up some breakfast and headed over about 10 30. Took Madeline out for a walk for a couple of ours and I amused for a couple more when we got back whilst M prepared tea. Eventually she fell asleep on me in the rocking chair. What could be better than that? We then witnessed a very spectacular bath time where she kicked water all over the place. On Saturday J n A went out for a long awaited birthday lunch at Eusebi's for James that had initially been booked last September but then Madeline happened. On Sunday we all went out for lunch at The Loveable Rogue. Never had mac n cheese with a roast before. Watched England beat Italy at rugby after then had a chat with T n S. Amy chats to her folks most days so at least they get to see Madeline that way. Had a pint in The Doublet on the way back as recommended by Roy. Had to register on track n trace which is unusual these days. Unfortunately the NHS app doesn't seem to recognise places in Scotland. It's happened before a couple of times. On Monday we amused Madeline for most of the day. Had fine fish n chips for tea from Catch in the evening then watched M on UC. This time they lost to Imperial so need to win their next match. She did really well though. Got 3 starters and a lot of bonuses. Got the train back on Tuesday. Masks no longer seem to be compulsory but don't  recall any announcement. In the evening we went to do the Brewdog quiz with the UC team to spend some vouchers from previous victories. Not only did we win again but won the jackpot which was £97 each. There were 3 questions. The first was a given from a Twitter clue, the other 2 were both got by M. How many sheep on the ark, 7, in what periodical did On Her Majesty's Secret Service first appear, Playboy. How does she know thus stuff?

Coronavirus - Sunday 6th February 2022

Spent most of Tuesday editing songs we did at Ian's with a bit of gardening thrown in. A lazy tidying and musical day on Wednesday. Went for a ride out to Hannington in Hampshire on Thursday with Kelvin, Stuart and Graham. Over 40 miles.Hannington was Andy's mum's maiden name and he and Willy had cycled out there and taken a similar picture to the above. Got a photo of Madeline doing things I can't do.
Went swimming Friday afternoon and in the evening I had a second stint at RSAC helping to do the sound for a gig that was part of Independant Venues Week. Hatty Taylor cancelled as she'd tested positive fir covid so ther were only 2 acts Tom Webber and Nicky Booty. Both really good. Simple set up each just vocals and amplified acoustic. A long evening though 5 til midnight. Had alazy day on Saturday watched West Ham beat Kidderminster in the FA cup then the 2 sides of Rugby Union. A great game in which Ireland beat Wales and a dire one where Scotland beat England. They've started doing drop kicks from the goal line. What's that all about? Went for a society walk from The Highwayman on Sunday. Think it was a record  turn out of 22.

Coronavirus - Monday 1st February 2022

Spent most of Monday learning songs for this weeks session at Ian's. Same on Tuesday. Did an LFT in the afternoon and OK. Heard that Penno has tested positive with an LTF though. She has what she descibes as a nasty cold with a bit of a fever. Picked up a hire car on Wednesday and drove up to Ian's. Rick and Greg were already there and Roy came later. Had a go at Learning To Fly by Pink Floyd and recorded Fly Me To The Moon and Fearless. Went for a walk early Thursday afternoon. John turned up. We recorded Times Like These, Learning To Fly by Tom Petty, Spider and the Fly, We'd Love To Change The World and Learning To Fly by Pink Floyd. Sue turned up to whisk Roy away but not before Ian presented Rick with this amazing present as he's learnt to paraglide.
Rick had covid a couple of weeks back. He was only ill for about 24 hrs  a bit like a criss between a cold a flu. He was still testing positive for a while though.
Here's the band.
Left around 1 30 on Friday. Headed off to Tom and Sally's lunch time on Saturday. Went to really nice restaurant called Le Garrick followed by the ballet (Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet). It was fantastic. It had been T n S's Xmas present in 2019 but delayed 2 years because of covid. Pity about the broken light in the ceiling though. The rules on mask wearing have just been relaxed but they still asked you to wear one and the majority did. Had a bit of a late one when we got back. Tom took a day out of his dry and vegetarian January. On Sunday we walked down to the river and along to the Emirates cable car and took a ride.Well worth it. Then got the DLR back to Greenwich had a pinze and went to the Up The Creek comedy club. Top evening, 5 comedians, all good, the top ones were Josh Pugh and Ardal O'Hanlon. They it it set out in rows. The previous time we went it was separate tables gor each group. Got up early on Monday morning to drive back as they needed their office back. Got back really quickly. Spent the rest of the day on the recordings we'd done at Ian's. Here's Spider and the Fly
