Petulantes

The Petulantes is/was a band made up of Howard, Chris Hardy and Dylan Bickerstaffe. Sadly Chris died of prostate cancer in 2013.

Dylan is/was the main vocalist and wrote most of the lyrics.

Most of the music was written collaboratively but Chris wrote some complete songs of his own which he also tended to sing.

Chris played acoustic and electric guitar and keyboard.

Howard played acoustic and electric guitar, bass, keyboard and had the odd stint on mandolin, banjo, ukulele and drums.

Most of the recording sessions took place at Howard's place in Reading but there was a least one session at Dylan's when he lived in Quorn and there was also a session at Square Dance Studios in Nottingham. There was probably a session about once a year.

Howard and Chris in the wire

I'm not quite sure when it all started but I've found a cassette called The Hand Of Sulla 1988-90

Initially the recordings were done on a 4 track Fostex cassette recorder and cassettes were produced but then the output was changed to CD.

Later the recordings were done on a Fostex VF160 digital recorder.

Sometimes Chris also did remixes using some computer software he had.

Dylan also recorded versions on his reel to reel along side the others. He had a Revox and a Sony.

Relaxing at Howard's. This is not a reference to Eric and the Beano
