Walks

The Society

Howard and Mary have been part of a walking group since 2006. It all started around Christmas 2005 when they went for a walk with Steve, Lindsey and Mandy and ended up back at Howard and Mary's. We had really enjoyed the walk and thought it would be good to do it more frequently. Someone suggested the first Sunday of every month. We emailed a few people we thought might be interested for the first Sunday in February and its been going ever since. That walk was from the Fox and Hounds at Christmas Common.
The walks are all based on a pub and are about 5 miles in length. We normally meet at 11 am. It's arranged by email. Someone volunteers, picks a pub and a walk, books a table and Bob's your uncle.
It takes a coordinator to make sure we have a volunteer each month. Mandy did it for the first 10 years or so but then Mary took over as Mandy was up to her neck in her PhD and Mary had retired. Its now back to Mandy.
We don't have a name as such but informally we are The Society.
A bit like the UK government there is no written constitution.

If a Society walk is mentioned in a blog post it will a have a society label.
