Coronavirus - Sunday 24th April 2022

Lazy day on Tuesday. On Tuesday did a Mansfield Rd walk organised by Roger. Got a bus to Woodcote and walked to Crowmarsh Gifford via Blue Tin farm and the King William. Lots of bluebells. I'd seen this ugly place before which is/was Rowan Atkinson's but now there's this.Went for a swim early Thursday morning and then prepared for the arrival of our special guest. She arrived about 4 30 with her parents.
Took Madeline for walk on Friday morning and went for a swim in the afternoon. On Saturday J n A went to the wedding of some friends in Cheltenham (who aren't spies) so me and M had Madeline all day. The longest she had been without her parents. Went OK, gave her lunch, took her into town, had dinner and then gave her a bath.

Put her down about 7 30. Unfortuately she woke up 15 mins later. URZ lost 3 0 at Hull but are safe from relegation. Heard that Anne and Wynn have got covid and Richard has had it. Tom also came over for Josh's party. Played with Madeline in the garden on Sunday moring. Then popped down to Blue Collar Corner for lunch/brunch. It was pretty good I had a boa with grilled veg. Me and Tom then went down to Whitehouse studios with Tony to see if it would work as a trio with Tom on drums for the Mansfield Rd Jubilee party. It went very well. M cooked a really nice roast chicken dinner. We then rounded off the evening watching Prisoners.

Coronavirus - Monday 18th April 2022.

Lazy day Monday. Got a text scam in the evening that I nearly fell for. Said I needed to order a PCR test which was free but they needed 99p postage. I stopped when it asked for card details. It all looked very authentic with NHS branding.
Did the ride out along the Kennet and back through Mapledurham on Tuesday morning. Not done it for a while. They seem to be widening the road though the Mapledurham estate. I can only assume its for the festival. Lazy day on Wednesday. Went for an early morning swim on Thursday followed by a band practice in the afternoon. We took part in a quiz in the evening at the Foresters with Malcolm Smith, his wife Teresa and a friend called Simon. We didn't contribute much as there were a lot of popular culture type questions but still came 3rd. Madeline has taken to drink.
Went for a swim on Friday afternoon then Tom and Sally came over so we fired up the pizza oven for the first time this year. Sally had covid when they came back from Bordeaux a couple of weeks ago. Found a baby robin in the office and took it outside. We saw it being fed later by an adult but don't know what happened to it. URZ beat Sheffield Utd away so are 9 points clear of the drop zone with 4 games to play. Went to Sue's 65th in the evening at Theale village hall. On Sunday we did the walk round Lodden Brewery and met up with the Wise clan for a couple of pints. Had slow cooked roast lamb after. Unfortunately me and Tom overdid it a bit later on which caused a few issues the next day as he was on fit state to drive. I went to watch URZ make and amazing come back against Swansea from being 4 1 down to drawing 4 4. We're 7 points ahead of Peterborough and both have 3 to play and 11 ahead of Barnsley who have 4 to play.

Coronavirus - Sunday 10th April 2022

Went to watch URZ beat Stoke 2 1 on Tuesday night taking us eight points clear of the drop zone. Quite a few supporters from both sides switched on their mobile phone lights round about the 70 minute mark. Not sure what that was about. Did a quick google but couldn't find anything. On Wednesday this UC article appeared on the Get Reading site. The team have been invited to lunch with the vice chancellor. Another article about Michael appeared later and even mentions the pizza evening we had round here. Went for a ride later, the loop out to Lambden Hill. Got back just before a downpour, about 20 miles. Amy's parents and her sister have arrived from Canada. So Kathryn got to meet Madeline in person for the first time.
Went for a swin on Thursday then it was first Thursday drinks and as JR had a signifcant birthday on 1st he chose the pub which was in fact a pub crawl. Possibly had one too many but made it home safely on my bike. As a result had a long lie in on Friday followed by another swim. Madeline was enjoying reading with her aunty and grandma.Dave and Alice came over late Saturday afternoon so I didn't go to watch URZ but listened on the radio. They were 1 0 up but didn't turn up in the 2nd half so lost 2 1. The other bottom teams either lost it drew so we're still 8 points clear with one less game to play so in a slightly better position. Had good evening with Dave and Alice. They left late Sunday morning as they were going to a lunch in Windsor. Did a couple of hours gardening. Madeline's weaning is progressing.

University Challenge Final - 4th April 2022

Today was the University Challenge final between Reading and Imperial. M had an interview with the Reading Chronicle in the afternoon. We watched the final down the Castle Tap and there was a big turnout.

Imperial started off strongly but Reading came back and nudged in front. M got 2 starters but it finished......
Such a shame just one question in it but there was spontaneous loud applause in the pub for M as everyone appreciated what a great achievement it was. Here's the team with Nobel prize winner Andre Geim who presented the prize.
Another great photo of the team.
A second interview also appeared in the Reading Chronicle where she defended her age. Michael has made a couple of good tweets.

On Tuesday morning both Michael and M gave interviews to BBC Radio Berks. There was also an article in the Guardian. There are lots of comments at the end of the article quite a few suggesting students of M's age should not be allowed to enter. This caused her to retweet the article from the Reading Chronicle about the issue which then got picked up by the Sun.

Coronavirus - Sunday 3rd April 2022

The weather had changed a bit by the time we got back from Glasgow and it stayed that way on Wednesday so had a lazy day. M did a zoom interview about UC on Thames Valley TV. The university have also advertised it on the big screen outside the station. Had a bit of snow on Thursday morning but it didn't stop us going for a ride out to Hampstead Norreys for lunch at the White Hart. We had snow, hail and sunshine on the ride. About 37 miles. Madeline can now roll over.

Had a goolie chat in the evening. Another day of all the seasons on Friday. Bit of a lazy day for me. M went to the dentists in Oxford. Didn't do much on Saturday but did listen to URZ away at Barnsley. They are in the drop zone 5 points below us. We conceded after 5 mins but fought back for a 1 1 draw. On Sunday we had a society walk based round The Bull And Butcher in Turville organised by Andy and June. We had a delayed start because of the half marathon so started at 2 30. Lovely evening.
