Up To Glasgow - Sunday October 22nd 2023

Spent most of Monday deep ckeaning the kitchen. Managed to get volunteer soundies for all the remaining October RSAC events. First AFD for a while. Heard an owl about 6 30 on Tuesday morning. Went for my covid and flu jabs then went to see Andy. Got the train to Glasgow on Wednesday morning. We met Owen in person for the first time.
And picked Madeline up from nursery.
Had chicken tikka masala from the Shish Mahal. Took Madeline  to nursery on Thursday then looked after Owen.
Took Madeline to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery on Friday. It was very windy. We went to the botonicals on Saturday morning past the penguins we hadn't noticed before. There are some killer plants in there.
Took Madeline to the park in the afternoon with James. Watched England lose to South Africa in the rugby world cup semi final by 1 point.
They were a bit unlucky. On Sunday JAM went to visit some friends so I did a bit of a walk whilst M did a bit of packing for them.
Found out Tom's company, Fantastic, has folded so he has unfortunately been made redundant. Owen had a nap.

Nice - Sunday October 15th 2023

Went to see Andy on Monday. He had had a family trip out to Newbury at the weekend and there are a couple more trips planned so our trip obviously sparked things off. He's now walking with a frame, can stand for 10 seconds and his hands are getting better. On Tuesday flew out to Nice. All very straightforward. Met up with Tom, Sally and Edith (SET) for a great meal in the old town at Chez Palmyre. One of those formulas the French do so well.

Went back to their place afterwards and admired Edith's rolling.

On Wednesday had a bit of a wander in the morning followed by a spot of lunch then out to a beach on the bus. Had my first dip in the sea since 2017 I think.

Public transport is pretty good. Tram from the airport, bus out to the beach, all very modern and quite joined up ticket wise. Quite a few cycle lanes too. The ride to the beach was just like being on the French Riviera. Tom cooked some pasta in the evening. On Thursday went up the big hill.

Then a really nice lunch at a more upmarket restaurant in the old town called Olive & Artichaut. Did a bit more wandering after. We are staying right next to the harbour.

There were quite a few expensive looking yachts like the one in the background. It's called the Kaiser and can be hired for €550,000 a week. Went to watch the sunset which is a bit of an event.

Snacked and played cards chez SET afterwards. Flew back on Friday morning.

Great place, great weather, great little break. Watched the rugby world cup quarter finals on Saturday and Sunday. Wales, Ireland and France out but England through.

A Trip To Sheffield - Sunday October 8th 2023

Drove up to Sheffield on Monday afternoon to stay with Ian and Fran. Did a pub quiz at the Union pub in the evening. Got 40 out of 47. Winners got 45. Did a walk on Tuesday and Ian cooked a fine curry using Swaadish sauces that they first bought at the Woodcote food fair last year. Meanwhile Edith did her first roll. Drove back on Wednesday. Spent most of Thursday reorganising the house in preparation for JAMO's arrival. We're now sleeping on the top floor. Had first Thursday drinks in the Fox and Hounds in the evening. More house reorganisation on Friday. Picked up a key for RSAC so I can now let myself in.  Did the sound at RSAC fir the Scarlet Vixens. Part of Pinktober to raise money for Breast Cancer Now. A good start to the day on Sunday, lots of photos and videos of grandkids as its Tom's birthday. Cooked a curry in the evening.

Pizza in Newbury - Sunday October 1st 2023

Went to see Andy on Monday. Spotted these outside the station.
M went to the denists in Oxford on Tuesday. I did a walk along the Kennet and Thames and back via Reading West Station the main purpose of which was to pick up some food bags from the library. Went via Brunswick St and the Foresters is definitely open. Just over 7 miles. Picked up some conkers in the courts off Bath Rd.
Went for a hilly ride out to Blue Tin farm on Wednesday with Kelvin and Stuart. Bumped into Mike there. About 30 miles. Went to see Henge at South Street in the evening. They pretend they're from another planet. Very enjoyable performance got better through the set and no tedious encore. Supported by this lot. They played on the floor with the audience around them. Also very good. I had to ask how they got the sound to the PA. They have a mixer on board so send a stereo wireless signal. Had a couple of pints down the Hop Leaf with Steve after. Went swimming on Thursday. Had a band practice on Friday. We took Andy out for a pizza early evening. Got the bus into Newbury and went to Lusso's. About 5 mins walk. All went well. Think he really enjoyed it. Went to see URZ v Burton on Saturday. A bit of a dull 0 0 draw. There was another tennis ball protest which kind of messed up the first half as everyone knew it was coming on the 16th minute (we've had 16 points deducted). We were all supposed to wear black instead of team colours but it was a bit unfortunate that Burton were playing in black.Heard later that on of the members of the band we are playing with on Sunday has covid. So they've pulled out. They were providing the PA as well. Charlie also has covid and Andy wore a mask on the bus on Friday so it's still lurking. Had a Cracking Up gig on Sunday afternoon. It was a charity event in Sonning Common village hall. We played well and went down well. Funniest gig moment. I snapped a string so went to get my strat that I use as a spare out of its case only to find my Roland SH101 in there. They raised £509. M did a society walk.
