A Visit From Edith - Sunday February 2nd 2025

Travelled back to Reading from Blackheath on Monday morning. Both got soaked by a lorry driving through a dirty puddle as we were waiting to cross the road to get to the Elizabeth Line in Woolwich. Me and Tony did the Castle Tap open mic in the evening. Did a song I wrote about the Where Is The Sun? Festival called Where Is The Sun,? Red Rooster and John Law. Quite a few new faces. Watched Michael Hutchinson's team The Bloomsbury Group in an Only Connect quarter final when I got back. They lost, only by 2 points in the end but they were miles behind going into the last round. Had a call with who I thought was a Reading BC planning officer on Tuesday morning but it turns out it was just someone from the Planning Portal whatever that is. Anyway he confirmed as I suspected that we don't need planning permission for the new shed so I completed a application for a Certificate of Lawfulness. We don't really need one but it could be useful. Went for a walk to The Kennet mouth and back with M. The river is quite high. About 4 miles. An AFD. Went swimming on Wednesday morning. I heard back from the planning people that I need to provide scaled elevations and a floor plan of the shed so spent a while doing the simplest one to see if it would be OK. Used the drawing tool in  google docs. Took a while to get one to print at the actual size. The ruler is not in actual centimetres when  measured in the document nor does it print in actual centimetres. Found that saving as a pdf and printing at 100% did though. Submitted it and later got a reply saying the drawing needed a scale bar so I've asked what one is. Also did a design for a replacement bench by the back door. Another AFD. Sorted out the scale bar issue on Thursday. This is one.

I tried to create one in google docs but in the end I just copied one and set it to the correct length. Did my Playhatch ride in the afternoon. The river was high but no flooding except up on the top.

Another AFD. Madeline was not well on Friday, she had a very high temperature, so we went over to no 81 and took Owen out for a walk. James left the car lights on when he took Madeline to the docs which flattened the battery so I popped over to with the jump leads. Then dropped M off at the station as she was going to the dentists in Oxford. Spent most of the afternoon playing guitar. Went to see URZ beat  Bolton 1 0 with Ralph on Saturday. We got a penalty in the 89th minute. SET came over in the evening. They had been to see Edith's new cousin Winnie who lives just outside Gloucester. The plan on Sunday had  been for SET to go over to no 81 to hang out but James, Amy and Owen had all got whatever Madeline had who was now much better. So we picked her up and met SET and Keith and Fiona at Prospect Park for the model trains.

On the way back I picked up Madelines bike to fix a puncture.

SET left in the evening after roast chicken and some dancing.
