A Trip To See Edith - Sunday October 27th.

On Tuesday morning M went to the hairdressers. I cycled to the docs with my urine sample then headed over to Tilehurst to put some finishing touches to my walking route. When I got to no 81 I found that Madeline was at home with a fever and the nursery had phoned to say Owen also had a fever so Amy had gone to pick him up. Finished my walk just as it started raining. Did about 4.5 miles. Had a cup of tea and a homemade pumpkin muffin and cycled back dodging more rain. A rare away win for URZ in the evening beating Exeter 2 1. It was out with the old and in with the new on Wednesday.
Madeline was back at nursery but not Owen so we popped over in the afternoon and took him to the park. He was back on Thursday so we went swimming in the morning. Then I trimmed back the jasmin so people can actually get to the front door. Went to Al Poyner's retirement do in The Market House late afternoon. Probably hadn't seen him for about 20 years. He's still playing guitar and has quite a lot of stuff online on various platforms. Tony was supposed to come over on Friday afternoon for a rehearsal but he had to cancel due to a covid relapse so as a result I didn't do much except change the strings on the Yamaha. On Saturday went to watch URZ beat Bristol Rovers 1 0. They struggled towards the end even though the gas were down to 10 men. Up to 5th. In the evening did the sound at RSAC for Satin Beige supported by Ciara Vizzard. Both really good. Clocks went back on Sunday. Popped into RSAC again in the morning to finish up doing the sound and tidying up for The Sunday Alternative. Went up to see SET in the afternoon. Hadn't seen Edith for a month or so and her vocabulary has really coming on and she's almost walking. Went out for pizza early evening and a new place called Crust and Wine. Excellent pizzas and a great evening.

Advanced Baby Sitting - Monday October 21st 2024

Went for a blood test on Monday morning. Ralph had been nagging me to get a PSA test. They're also doing cholesterol, diabetes and something else. Also had to provide a urine sample. Then went to the denist in the afternoon as a crown and some other bits fell out a few months ago. I was in there for over an hour as they had to build up the tooth bit by bit. Owen has been attempting to walk for a while but I think we can call these his first steps. My first alcohol free day for a long time. Probably about a year. Got a text from the doctors first thing Tuesday morning telling me I have high cholesterol. Went swimming then had our flu and covid jabs. Saw Paul Webb on the way back. He's had his last chemo session but also lost his hair. Had a sleepless night which may be to do with the covid jab. One in a hundred get that. Also the first time I had covid I remember being awake all night even though I felt more or less OK. Had a call with the manager of the ward Martin is in about his on going care. Asked the other Goolies if they wanted to be involved. Lazy day as not feeling 100% after the jabs and sleepless night. Good nights sleep and did my 5 hills ride on Thursday morning. Then finished my Small Town Blues video. My 4th alcohol free day on the trot. Got this ace pic from Sally of there street on Friday morning. Owen came over later for some bowl sitting while James took Madeline to the park. She then stayed for lunch. Did a bit of a walk round Lousehill and Blundells Copse in the afternoon with a pint in The Victoria. Then fish and chips at no 81. Watched URZ beat Crawley 4 1 at the lunchtime KO on Saturday with Ralph. It was a flattering scoreline as Crawley had a lot of possession and chances. Went to RSAC after to set up for The Scarlet Vixens. Then left them to it and went back later to pack up. James brought the kids over late on Sunday morning and left them with us for the night whilst they went to stay at a hotel just outside Marlow. It was for Amy's birthday. The first time Owen has stayed over. All went well in spite of the fact they were both a bit under the weather. James and Amy got back about 10 30 on Monday morning. Got a text from the doctors saying they hadn't been able to process my urine sample as it was inadequately labelled. I needed to pick up another container so took the opportunity to walk out there and back along the Kennet.

St Mawes - Sunday October 13th 2024

JAMO drove back from Cornwall on Monday. We went for a walk in the morning.
Drove to Truro via the King Harry Ferry in the afternoon. M had said from past experience it was a bit run down and our first experience seemed to verify that as we entered the run down shopping centre. However we then headed for the cathedral and things got a lot better. We ended up having a pint in the Skinners brewery. It turned into a day of 2 halves as it rained really heavily on the way back. It eased off a bit later so we popped out for a pint and picked up some excellent fish and chips. On Tuesday M went to visit the Vachel ancestor to check out some of the documents she has. I went for a walk and got a bit wet. We called Tom to wish him happy birthday and then popped out for a pint and picked up provisions for tea. On Wednesday caught the ferry to Falmouth and had a look round.Interesting place but thought £18 each was a bit much for the maritime museum. Had pasties for lunch. On Thursday we had planned to go to the Eden Project but it was raining hard
, an hours drive away and £38 each to get in so we decided to come home instead. It did clear up but by then we were committed. Picked up on Whatsapp that John Stevens has covid so wasn't going to first Thursday drinks. James popped round with the kids on Friday afternoon then we went round there for tea. Went round to Ralph and Sue's for a meal on Saturday evening. Lazy day Sunday and made pizzas for tea.

A Paddle at St Mawes - Sunday October 6th 2024

Walked the loop along the Kennet to Southcote Lock on Monday afternoon. Not done it for a while. Walked out to the big Tesco's by the Thames on Tuesday. I was intrigued by  this in the underpass by the Kennet. They are a band from Ascot apparently. A bit of flooding on the Thames Path after all the rain.On my way back into town I went through the Forbury Gardens. I noticed a  woman picking leaves from a plant so went to investigate and found a few of these.
Went to see URZ beat Burton Albion 3 1. Managed to sneak my drink in to my seat. On Wednesday morning we went swimming. A woman in the slow lane had a panic attack when she was out of her depth. She was holding on to the lane divider. M tried to help but the woman was pushing her under so she had to stop. Eventually a lifeguard came in and we all had to get out. M was a bit shaken up but we carried on swimming for another 5 mins or so. I hadn't quite realised how the pool bottom is layed out. It doesn't slope but there are 2 flat sections with a sloping divider. So it suddenly gets deeper hakf way along. We picked up Madeline and Owen from nursery and drove over to no 81 for James's birthday tea. Amy's short ribs and carrot cake. On Thursday evening I went to Oxford to see Police Dog Hogan in St Barnabas church. Excellent gig, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, dobro, accordian, mandolin, fiddle, keyboards, double bass, electric bass, drums, percussion, recorder, trumpet and lots of harmonies. The first set was all done round a single mic. Great stuff. Drove down to St Mawes on Friday morning. Took ages as the M4 was closed. JAMO got there just before us. Fine view from the bedroom showing the marquee at which the reception for the wedding they are going to will be held.On Saturday we looked after the kids whilst they were at the wedding. Found a park which helped amuse them. Went out for lunch on Sunday followed by the park and later a walk on the beach. I had a paddle.
