Ian and Fran went back fairly early on Monday and I chilled out for the rest of the day. On Tuesday I did my old lockdown walk along the Kennet to Southcote Lock and back through Coley Park. The question was could I get back before the downpour.
The answer was no. We met up with Mike and Abby in the evening. They are over from Australia for his mum's 90th, delayed for 2 years because of covid. On Wednesday morning I cycled out to Maker Space at Nuffield with Andy, Kelvin and Stuart. Wanted to check it out for an up coming gig. Spotted a couple of late raspberries when I got back.

I went to RSAC in the afternoon to see if I could suss out the problem we had last Friday with the PA but everything seemed to be working fine. M gave an online talk in the evening to a history society about the interpreration of settlement certificates. Chilled a bit on Thursday. Was supposed to go swimming but somehow hadn't booked. We decided not to do the gig at Maker Space as it didn't look like they could provide suitable facilities for an outdoor gig in mid November. Mike will do a solo spot and they want us to play next May. We cancelled the band practice on Friday so ended going for an extended version if my Kennet/Coley walk. Went to see URZ vs Preston in the evening with Kelvin and Andy. They did a job in us and stopped us playing. Lost 2 1. Went down the Retreat after. It was Bobby's 60th on Saturday. Good do. On Sunday the Elizabeth Line fully opened to and from Reading so we met Tom and Sally for lunch at a pub in Farringdon. So easy to get to especially coming back.
There was a secondary reason for the trip. Earlier in the year we cut down the cherry tree that was bought by my folks when Tom was born. Tom's tree. We kept some wood and gave it to Ian to make something out of to give to Tom and he brought the reslts the previous weekend.
The wood was cracked so he used resins to fill the gaps.
