Coronavirus - Wednesday 16th June 2021.

We went for our PCR surge tests on Monday morning. These were at the new park and ride place at the entrance to the Oracle buisness park. Run by the RAF. You do it my yourself in the car. Very similar to the lateral flow test. I.e. use a swab at the back of your throat (on your tonsils if you have any) then up your nose. You then put that in a tube with a bit of liquid in the bottom. It then all goes in a bag which someone takes off you with some long handled tongs. You then register your test online and should get the results within 24hrs. For the lateral flow you shake the tube and squeeze a couple of drops of the liquid onto a plastic indicator and you get the results in 30 mins. If you get a second line where the T is its +ve. You're still supposed to register the result. The PCR test instructions were a bit confusing in that they mention blowing your nose on a tissue and using hand sanitiser so I assumed these would be the test kit. There was a pad that we assumed was the tissue so both blew our noses on it. It turns out this was an absorbant pad to go in the bag in case the tube leaks. Plenty of staff to help you with any queries though. Flash your hazards when you're done. Got the test results by email early on Tuesday morning and we're negative.
Last Thursday I did the equivalent of the southern half of my round Reading off-road route so today I thought I'd do the northern half. Its a lot harder but I would have done it in 2.5 hours if I hadn't had a slow puncture. I noticed it when I was almost back so popped into Evans for some new tubes then walked home. Spotted 19 nitrous oxide canisters down Garnet Hill. Took it easy on Wednesday. Didn't wake up until nearly 9. Popped out to get a few bottles of GOB to take to Ian's. Did another lateral flow test and all OK. Went for a swim on Thursday morning. They've changed it from 2 to 3 lanes. Not as good. Maybe they are trying to cater for more people. Set off about midday to get to lan's in Sheffield on our way up to Glasgow. Had a great evening.
Drove up to James and Amy's on Friday. A few delays on the A66 but then OK until we got to Glasgow. Great to see them we're the first people they've had in their flat since it all kicked off. James made some great pizzas. Went out for brunch on Saturday then a walk in Kelvingrove Park after where there are some fine views.J and A then headed off for their first jabs in the Hydro centre. They got Pfizer and it all went quite smoorhly. We got the clockwork oranage into town and back for a spot of shopping. Quite busy though probably not as busy as normal. Mask wearing well observed. M cook the Ottolenghi chicken tray bake. On Sunday we went for a walk along a stretch of the the Forth and Clyde Cannal. It took us past Partick Thistle football ground. We watched England beat Croatia 1 0 in the Euros in the afternoon then headed out to the Ox and Finch for our evening meal. On Monday we drove out to Largs on the the west coast south of the Clyde. Did a walk up to a view point. The closest island is Great Cumbrae with Arran in the distance. Had fish and chips from the best chippy in Scotland 2017.In evening we then had chicken tikka masala from the Shish Mahal where it was invented.A very culinary day.  Stopped off at Rick and Jeanette's in Howden on Tuesday on the way back. Went round to Tessa and Jonty's to try out the pool they built with Rick during lockdown. BrilliantHad a great evening. The outdoor wood burning stove is quite impressive too. Drove back on Wednesday after a late breakfast. Spotted this covid supply section in the filling station.Watched Wales beat Turkey 1 0 in the Euros.
