Madeline's First Sleepover - Sunday June 23rd 2024

On Tuesday applied for a new passport then did a bit more hedge trimming at No 81. It was a nice day so Edith tried the pool we bought for her birthday. Went for a ride in the evening with Kevin and Ian and Dominic from Northgate. Just from Wokingham back to Reading taking in a few pubs. I did cycle out as well so it was about 25 miles. Ages since I've done an evening ride. Great fun. Didn't do much on Wednesday. Watched Scotland draw with Switzerland 1 1 in the evening. We both had a bit of a cold with a bad cough. Lazy day Thursday too. Watched England have a tedious 1 1 draw with Denmark in the evening. My cold had got a bit better but M's was worse if anything. Went to softplay with JAO on Friday morning. M wasn't up for it because of her cold and 2 sleepless nights. Heard Bobby had a heart attack but he's OK, no medical intervention required just a change of diet and lifestyle. Lazy day Saturday. On Sunday helped out with the sound for Sunday Alternative at RSAC. Paul set everying up and did the first couple of numbers but had to leave so I finished off and put stuff away. Amy went to see Taylor Swift at Wembley in the evening so we agreed Madeline could have a sleep over at ours. We took her into town in the afternoon and treated her to a new outfit.

Watched Scotland lose 1 0 to Hungary in the evening so they are on their way home.

Anne and Wynn's Wedding - Monday June 17th 2024

It was Edith's first birthday on Monday. I popped round to No 81 to have a go at trimming the hedge. Rainy day on Tuesday so didn't do much except pack for the wedding. What follows is a brief description of the wedding and a few photos. There are so many photos and stories to tell that it would take weeks to write up otherwise.

Drove up to Chester on Wednesday to stay at the Grosvenor Hotel. We had valet parking outside the hotel and a very impressive room with a separate lounge. Had a quick look round Chester and a visit to the cathedral. In the evening had a lovely meal in the Chef's Table. It was just Anne's siblings and partners plus Alex and James. The ceremony took place in the hotel on Thursday afternoon.
Grace was Wynn's best girl and Peter gave Anne away. This was followed by a meal in the Arkle suit with speeches by Peter and Wynn.
The meal itself was a tasting menu with accompanying wines. On  Friday we drove over to Llantysilio Hall to meet up with everyone else. We had a lovely room at the front.
I went for a walk up Velvet Hill in the afternoon which overlooks the hall.
Madeline had made friends with Sofia, her second cousin and look a like.
There was an informal BBQ in the evening. The place was lit up.
On Saturday a golf cart appeared.
The main wedding party started at 4pm with a reception in the drawing room followed by photos outside.
We then moved to the marquee for the main event. There were speeches by Wynn, Huw, Margaret, Michael and Anne then dancing til after one. On Sunday we had lunch at the Chainbridge Hotel. Our bit of the family then caught the train to Carrog. Had a pint in The Grouse and got the train back again.
Watched England beat Serbia 1 0 in the Euros in the evening and drove back on Monday. A brilliant time was had by all but Philip did break his foot.

Wynn's Stag, a Street Party and Edith's First Birthday Picnic - Sunday June 9th 2024

On Monday got the train to Abergavenny for Wynn's non-stag do. Checked into the Kings Arms about 2pm and went for a walk along the river Usk. Had a swifty in the Lamb And Flag and walked back. Met up with Scott, Huw, Jonathan and Wynn in the bar at 6pm. Had a couple of pints then got a cab  to The Crown at Pantygelli for a meal then back again for more beers. A good night. Got the train back on Tuesday and didn't do much else. Did a bit of rehearsing for Saturday's party on Wednesday. Popped over to No 81 to help move some stuff. Picked up the suit I ordered from MnS for the wedding. Fits fine. Went over to RSAC in the evening to show the Artists Linkup guys how to set up the PA. Had a practice with Tony on Thursday. Popped over to No 81 on Friday morning and went to the park with James, Madeline and Owen. Then had another practice with Tony in the afternoon. M went up to Greenwich Park for Edith's first birthday picnic on Saturday.
Meanwhile me and Tony played at Yvonne and Steve's party. We did an  acoustic set followed by an electric one with a drum machine and some drum patterns Tom did for us a couple of years ago. We went down well I think. People danced to the last two numbers. I then popped over to RSAC to see if I was needed for Artist's Linkup but they said they could manage without me. So I went back to the party. Meanwhile M had left her phone on the train but it was found by a guard at Swindon and sent back. Lazy day Sunday.

Pizzas With The Family And Tribute Night - Sunday June 2nd 2024

Had a rehearsal with Tony for the street party on Monday. Took Amy's bike over and drove the car back. Had a wedding call in the evening. Mostly pottered on Tuesday. Went to a HCTS meeting in the evening. We've almost got all the acts signed up. Managed a short bike ride along the Kennet on Wednesday. JAMO came over for tea as they had a parent's evening at the nursery. Tom and Edith came over on Thursday.Sally came later.  She'd been to an ICAS do at the National Portrait Gallery so took the oportunity to have a guided tour. James, Madeline and Owen came over on  Friday. We went to the park.Amy ran over after work and we had pizzas. On Saurday SET went to Keith and Fiona's. It was U2 tribute night at RSAC. I did the sound and played New Years Day with Tony and Andy Coltman as Achtung Bono. It went well but unfortunately my g string was tuned a semi tone sharp. On Sunday we met up with JAMO, SET and Keith at Prospect Park for the first Sunday of the month model railway. Hadn't been there since Tom and James were kids. It was great and really busy.Afterwards we fancied a walk so walked to no 81 and got the bus back.
