3 Gigs And Advanced Baby Sitting - Sunday February 23rd 2025

Put new brake blocks on the front wheel of my road bike on Monday morning. Did the Lyndhurst open mic in the evening. One Scotch, Hey Lord, and To The Brink. We only got 3 songs but I think everyone else got 4. Andy Coltman and Fiona came to see us and Gil and Fran were in. Did a ride out to Silchester on Tuesday with Andy, Kelvin and Graham. It was Andy's first ride for about 6 months and he was trying out a yet another new saddle.
Did a spot of housework on Wednesday followed by a walk to the Tesco's by the Thames, about 5 miles. James had been working in Scotland for 3 days and came back just after 5 so I picked him up from the station and they all came round for dinner. Went swimming on Thursday morning and out to see TV Smith at the Facebar in the evening. He played for 2 hours non-stop, some good songs. Tony came round on Friday afternoon for a rehearsal as we a planning to do 4 Marianne Faithful songs at the Castle Tap open mic on Monday. James and Amy were away at PJ's wedding for the weekend so we picked up the kids from nursery and stayed over at no 81. All went pretty smoothly through the night. They both went to bed OK. Owen woke up a couple of times but went straight off again after some milk. Madeline came into our bed at some point but was fine. On Saturday morning we took them to the park in Recreation Rd. In the afternoon we got the bus into town and spent an hour or so in the museum which they really enjoyed. Madeline then had a couple of goes on the carousel in Broad St. A similar night to Friday except this time Madeline didn't join us. Went to the softplay at the Meadway on Sunday morning which they really enjoyed. Its not a permanent softplay area they just put a lot of stuff out on soft mats and have a bouncy castle. Really good for kids of their age. James and Amy got back about 3 30. Did the sound for Reinis Jaunais and The Flamenco Thief at RSAC in the evening. Flamenco Thief is Craig Sutton and guess what he plays? Reinis plays a steel string acoustic. There's lots of looping going on and using the guitars percussively. Reinis quite often frets with both hands. Very good. They've got loads of effects etc. What I really liked is that they sorted out their own EQ on the desk. Nice guys. About a dozen paying customers which is OK when its seated. The prospects for the centre don't look good though after the death of Felix. There will be no refurb.

A Couple Of Home Games - Sunday February 16th 2025

The dishwasher had an E15 error code on Monday morning so had to get a man in. Went over to no 81 later to take the kids out for a bit. It was a bit of a horrible morning weather-wise so after a brief spell in the park we went to the library. Not the most successful of trips as Madeline didn't really want to go. Tony came round in the afternoon for a rehearsal as we have a couple of open mics coming up. An AFD. Went to the hygienists on Tuesday morning and then did a walk back via Cow Lane and the Thames. The dishwasher man was there when I got back and fixed it OK. Went to see URZ draw 1 1 with Shewsbury in the evening. It was a pretty miserable affair. Neither side played well. Our keeper saved a penalty, the referee was Abigail Byrne, the first time I can remember a female ref and I don't remember Wareham scoring before. Tony set up a Facebook page for the Dead Sea Trio. Went swimming on Wednesday morning. Went to the Castle Tap sea shanty night in the evening. Very busy almost standing room only. Good atmosphere. Did the 5 hills ride on Thursday morning. As I was going up the middle hill which is short but steep, a local going the other way mentioned if was the only place nearby with a chevron.

Tony popped round in the afternoon for a quick rehearsal. Had a rehearsal for tribute night on Friday with Tony and Andy at Pirate. Had a valentines day meal in the evening. On Saturday morning drove over to Waitrose on Oxford Rd to jump start  James's car. Went to watch URZ beat Rotherham 2 1. They left it late with an extra time penalty. Ralph had already gone. A neat trick with the penalty. Savage had the ball and it looked like he was going to take it. He was involved with a verbal exchange with their keeper. But then up stepped Knibbs to actually take it. They played a lot better than Tuesday night. Went to Rob n Anj's for a meal in the evening. Walked over to no 81 for dinner on Sunday.

Where Is The Sun? - Sunday February 9th 2025

James and Amy were still a bit under the weather on Monday morning so we picked up the kids for a few hours. Tony came over in the afternoon for a rehearsal. Spent most of Tuesday creating drawings for the Certificate Of Lawfulnrss for the new shed. The application was finally accepted. An AFD. On Wednesday did a ride out to Maker Space with Kelvin and Stuart. When we got back to Reading we noticed that the area round the Station Hill development was now open. They've got some fancy lights and tracks to get bikes up. You can get through to Friar Street next to where the Sirencraft bar is.We picked Madeline and Owen up from nursery and James and Amy came over for dinner. They had still been feeling rough all day and hadn't been working. Did the open mic at the Foresters later. We did Where Is The Sun?, I Need Your Love So Bad, Seeds And Stems and Rooster. Some good singers there (including Tony). Countryboy Lee Hill was playing who had been on the at the Castle Tap. Went swimming on Thursday morning. In the afternoon I did an extended walk into town for a visit to Hickies where I tried in vain to buy a microphone cover/pop shield. It was first Thursday drinks in the evening at The Greyfriar. Tony came round for a rehearsal on Friday afternoon. Spent most of Saturday, setting up,  appearing at and doing sound for the Where Is The Sun? festival at RSAC. A great little event organised by Alex Marlow. Mainly chilled on Sunday.
